England's Lionesses Beat Iceland, Eye World Cup Spot
Lionesses win streak continues vs Iceland

England's Lionesses secure 2-0 win over Iceland in World Cup 2027 qualifying, with goals from Lucy Bronze and Georgia Stanway.

England tops Group A3 after beating Iceland, faces Spain in crucial rematch next month...

England's Lionesses are flying high. They've won their first two World Cup 2027 qualifiers, and it's looking good for them. Their latest win was against Iceland, where they secured a 2-0 victory at Nottingham's City Ground.

Lucy Bronze was the hero, scoring her 22nd goal and earning her 145th cap. She headed in a Lauren James cross just past the 20-minute mark. Iceland pushed hard for an equalizer but couldn't break through England's defense.

England's goalkeeper Hannah Hampton pulled off an incredible save to keep Sandra Maria Jessen's header out, but Georgia Stanway sealed the win in the 78th minute. The Lionesses are flying high after thrashing Ukraine 6-1 earlier in the week, topping group A3. World champions Spain face Ukraine later on Saturday.

“An important win. I think we played well, we know they're very disciplined, very powerful and really dangerous on the counter,” England coach Sarina Wiegman told ITV.

“For the most part, we took that out so they didn't become dangerous. They had that one chance where Hannah Hampton did really well.

“Overall, we showed some good football. Of course, we want to score more goals but it starts with winning the game.”

England and Spain face off again next month in a thrilling rematch of the Euro 2025 final and the 2023 World Cup final. The stakes are high - only the winners of each European 'League A' group will qualify automatically for the World Cup.

The other 12 teams will enter play-offs, joining League B group winners and top teams from League C. It's gonna be a nail-biter.
