Cape Verde’s veteran goalkeeper Vozinha has landed in Chile to complete a move to Colo-Colo. The 40-year-old shot-stopper went viral during the World Cup for his performances.

Vozinha is set to sign a six-month deal with an option for a further year on Monday, pending his medical. He will then link up with the squad in training on Tuesday.

Local reports in Chile say he could make his first appearance on August 16 against O’Higgins. Colo-Colo are aiming to extend their lead at the top of the Chilean Premier Division.

Vozinha starred for the small African island nation at the World Cup in North America. His saves helped Cape Verde advance out of the group before they were edged out by Argentina in the Round of 32. They also held eventual champions Spain and two-time winners Uruguay to draws in the group stage, with Vozinha playing a key role in Cape Verde’s first-ever appearance at the tournament.

His social media blew up off the back of those displays. Vozinha’s Instagram following jumped from about 50,000 to roughly 17.4 million after his heroics against Spain in the opening week of the tournament in June.

Colo-Colo received approval on Friday for Vozinha - full name Josimar Jose Evore Dias  to wear his nickname on the back of his shirt. That’s despite Chilean league rules that normally ban the use of nicknames on kits.

The concern that he could be barred from using the same name he wore at the World Cup didn’t turn into an issue. Other Chilean clubs backed Colo-Colo’s request.

“Vozinha” means “little grandmother” in Portuguese. He picked up the nickname as a kid after getting upset following street games, losing and running home to his grandparents, who raised him.

The 40-year-old last played for Portuguese second-tier side Chaves. He has also had spells in Angola, Cyprus, Moldova and Slovakia.
