Danish hockey star Nick Olesen, 30, is set to face off against the Czech Republic national team, where he's become a big name in the domestic league. He's had a remarkable run, especially after scoring the winning goal against Canada in the World Championship quarter-final last May.
Olesen's love for the Czech Republic and its culture led him to extend his contract with Motor České Budějovice until 2028. He even made the All-Star team last season, solidifying his position as one of the league's top players. His creativity and playmaking skills have made him a fan favorite, and he'll be looking to lead Denmark to victory.

Fremragende defensivt og offensivt af Danmark i første periode. Nick Olesen stod bag Danmarks første mål, mens Nicholas Jensen var bag andet mål, som han scorede fra midten. Spektakulært flot!

Olesen has continued his impressive form during this season, and for a while in the fall, he was leading goalscorer in the league. This urged the club to remind him to keep his feet on the ground. “We talked to him and told him not to think that it's going to be easy now, and success would come automatically. He knows that if he steps out of line somewhere, he'll get his fingers slapped right away. Just like everyone else,” said coach Ladislav Čihák to idnes.cz.
“If he steps out of line somewhere, he'll get his fingers slapped.”
Olesen has turned into one of the biggest stars in the Czech league in attack. “He joined the club as a difference maker, and he proved it. He's had an extremely good season this year. His strength is that he can find an open spot in the offensive zone and then solve the situation. It's about passing, but also finishing. That's his biggest asset. He's not the fastest skater, but he stands out above the rest with his creativity and game thinking,” says former Czech NHL player Václav Nedorost to Livesport Zpravy.
Olesen's role in Motor České Budějovice is more creative than his attacking position with Denmark, focusing on setting up goals. He's impressive, ranking second in primary passes (20) that lead directly to goals, plus 13 goals and six second assists – contributing to every third goal for Motor.
His stats are similar with Denmark, and he's getting more involved in games as the tournament progresses. His ice time's increasing (13:47, 15:21, 17:15), and he's usually in the third line, showing his growing impact.
