Steelers hold off Saints in NFL's historic first regular-season game in Paris....

Pittsburgh's Aaron Rodgers threw for 212 yards and a landmark touchdown as the Steelers edged the New Orleans Saints 16-10 in the league's first-ever regular-season game in Paris on Sunday.

Rodgers connected with Darnell Washington on a four-yard touchdown to put Pittsburgh up 10-3 late in the second quarter. It was the 540th regular-season touchdown pass of his career, moving him past Peyton Manning (539) into sole possession of third place all-time.

The 42-year-old future Hall of Famer also picked up eight crucial yards on a scramble on third down just before the two-minute warning to keep Pittsburgh's game-clinching drive alive.

“There were some important plays, and that was one of them,«Rodgers said. He also made history as the first NFL quarterback to play regular-season games in four different countries.

He had previously played in London with both the Packers and the Jets, and last year led Pittsburgh in the NFL's inaugural game in Ireland.

Jaylen Warren paced the Steelers on the ground with 101 yards on 18 carries plus three receptions, while Chris Boswell added three field goals as Pittsburgh moved to 5-2.

Still, Rodgers pointed to the defense as the deciding factor.

Pittsburgh limited New Orleans to just 18 rushing yards, and linebacker Payton Wilson came up with a red-zone interception of Saints quarterback Tyler Shough in the third quarter to halt a promising drive.

“I thought our defense obviously played great,” Rodgers said. “It was a disjointed game with the length of the possessions, but we were really bad in the red zone.”

“We've got to clean that up. We had too many penalties, especially 15-yard penalties,” Rodgers said.

“However, it's hard to win in this league. We traveled over on Thursday night, Friday. Guys were tired, so it was a gutsy win for us,” he added.

Sunday's matchup in the French capital was one of a record nine regular-season games staged outside the U.S. this year, with Paris joining Melbourne and Rio de Janeiro as first-time hosts.

The game went on as scheduled despite ongoing protests some turning violent that have led to more than 1,300 arrests.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell told AFP on Friday that the Paris game was not “a one-off.”
