Burnley dismiss Nicky Hayen appointed to replace Scott Parker in summer. Clarets sit 22nd in Championship after relegation from Premier League last season.

From Belgian title winner to Burnley flop, Hayen's short reign ends...

Burnley have dismissed head coach Nicky Hayen after just 14 games, the Championship club announced on Saturday, after a dismal start to the season.

The 46-year-old Belgian's last match in charge was Saturday's 4-1 thrashing at Lincoln City, a result that deepened Burnley's woes and left them 22nd in the standings. The Clarets have managed just one win in their last 12 league games.

“Burnley Football Club has dismissed head coach Nicky Hayen with immediate effect. The Board has taken the decision following a disappointing start to the Championship season,” the club said in a statement.

Hayen was appointed on a three-year contract in the summer, replacing Scott Parker, who departed by mutual consent in April after Burnley's relegation from the Premier League was confirmed, sending the club down to the Championship for the third time in five seasons.

Hayen was appointed caretaker manager of Club Brugge in March 2024. He led the side to the 2023/24 Belgian Pro League title and to the Champions League last 16 the following season.

After being handed the job permanently in June 2024, he also lifted the Belgian Cup and Belgian Super Cup and was named Belgium's Coach of the Year in 2024.
