Werder Bremen brought an end to their six-game winless run on the road in the Bundesliga, edging out Mainz 05 3-2 in an entertaining contest at the Mewa Arena.
The away side made the perfect start, breaking the deadlock inside just seven minutes.
Arthur saw his near-post effort kept out by Alexander Schwolow, but was then brought down inside the box by Stefan Posch, earning Werder a penalty which Niclas Fullkrug confidently dispatched.
Mainz went close to levelling 10 minutes later as Karl Hein tipped Kacper Potulski's header over the crossbar, only to find themselves two behind soon after.
Marco Grull burst into the area before being tripped by Danny da Costa, prompting referee Florian Badstubner to point to the spot for a second time.
Fullkrug stepped up again from 12 yards and made no mistake, completing his brace with his second penalty of the afternoon.
However, just after the half-hour mark, the hosts dragged themselves back into the contest, as Anthony Caci headed home Sheraldo Becker's far-post cross. The goal ensured an intriguing second half was in store, while Werder's wait for a clean sheet stretched to 14 matches.
The hosts flew out of the traps after the restart, pushing hard for an equaliser.

But just after the hour mark, their efforts suffered a major setback when Ludovit Reis’ first-time strike from the edge of the box took a wicked deflection, leaving Schwolow completely wrong-footed as it flew into the net to restore Werder’s two-goal advantage.
Just two minutes later, though, Mainz hit back, with Jae-Sung Lee directing a fine header into the bottom-left corner to halve the deficit again.
The 05ers pushed hard for a late equaliser, but it never came as their winless home run - which continues to blunt their otherwise impressive start to the season - stretched to seven matches.
