Inter Milan clinch 21st Serie A Title uder Chivu with three games to spare...

Inter Milan secured their 21st Scudetto this weekend, opening a 12-point gap at the top of Serie A that can’t be closed with three rounds left.

Going into Matchday 35 of the 2025/26 season, Inter had two paths to the title: beat Parma at home on Sunday, or watch Napoli drop points Saturday and AC Milan fail to win Sunday afternoon.

Napoli drew, Milan lost, and Inter then beat Parma 2-0 to make it official.

For Cristian Chivu, it caps off a remarkable first season in charge of the Nerazzurri.

Cristian Chivu took over as Inter manager after Simone Inzaghi left in summer 2025 to join Saudi side Al Hilal.

Inzaghi left big shoes to fill. During his spell he won Serie A in 2023/24, picked up two Coppa Italia titles, and led Inter to two Champions League finals.

Few expected instant success from 45-year-old Chivu this season, with Antonio Conte’s Napoli defending their crown and AC Milan led by serial winner Massimiliano Allegri.

In the end Inter’s main rivals fell away. Napoli and Milan lost momentum as the season went on, while Juventus in fourth never got going, struggled early, and changed managers in October.

Goals flow at both ends for dominant Inter

Inter’s attack has been relentless in Serie A this season, outscoring both Napoli and Milan by over 30 goals.

Captain Lautaro Martínez has led the charge with a league-best 16 goals and counting. Marcus Thuram added 13 and Hakan Çalhanoğlu 9, while 20-year-old Francesco “Pio” Esposito broke through with 6 in his first real run in the side.

Federico Dimarco set a new Serie A record for assists with 18, the highest in a single season. Nicolo Barella also chipped in with more than six assists from midfield.

Inter’s defense has been just as strong, conceding 31 goals all season at under one per game. Veteran goalkeeper Yann Sommer and summer loan signing Manuel Akanji have been almost ever-present as the side lost only five matches on the way to the title.

Europe told a different story. Inter crashed out in the Champions League play-off round to Bodo/Glimt, which only added pressure at home. While Napoli and Milan slipped up in the spring, Chivu’s team kept their composure and pulled away.

Domestic form after November made the difference in what could have been a tight race. Aside from the derby loss to Milan, Inter dropped just one more league game all season - again to Milan.

That defeat sparked an eight-match unbeaten run that carried Inter to the title and into the Coppa Italia final, putting Chivu in position to chase a rare domestic double.

Inter’s last double came in 2009/10 under Jose Mourinho during their treble season. Only Juventus, with 36 league titles, have won more Italian top-flight championships.
