Australian Open champion Elena Rybakina moved into the fourth round at the WTA 1000 event in Toronto on Friday, while French Open winner Mirra Andreeva was knocked out by Canada’s Leylah Fernandez.

The world No. 2 from Kazakhstan beat 28th-seeded American Ann Li 6-2, 7-5 in an hour and 30 minutes. Rybakina converted 5 of 6 break points and fended off 2 of 4 break points on her own serve.

Rybakina, a 2022 Wimbledon champion as well, will face the winner of the later match between Russia’s Liudmila Samsonova and Australia’s Maya Joint in the round of 16.

30th seed Fernandez knocked out 19-year-old Russian No.5 seed Andreeva 6-1, 6-4 in 1 hour 20 minutes.

Fernandez was dominant on serve, winning 24 of 27 points on her first serve. She also took 17 of 23 points off Andreeva’s second serve to seal the win.

The Canadian will now meet the winner of the later match between Japan’s Naomi Osaka, the 11th seed and 4-time Grand Slam champion, and Belgium’s 20th seed Elise Mertens.

Also through to the fourth round is 19-year-old Russian Alina Korneeva. She beat 13th-seeded American Iva Jovic 6-3, 6-4 in 82 minutes, converting 7 of 8 break points.

Korneeva will next face the winner of the evening match between US No.4 seed Coco Gauff and Greece’s Maria Sakkari.
