Sevilla’s relegation worries grow as Levante win key six-pointer...
Levante earned a huge 2-0 win over Sevilla to boost their LaLiga survival hopes, claiming just their second head-to-head win in 11 meetings.
Levante looked to build on Monday’s vital 1-0 win over Getafe, and were nearly gifted the perfect start in the early stages of this relegation six-pointer.
Referee Jose Sanchez initially awarded a penalty after believing Iván Romero was tripped in the box by Nemanja Gudelj. Replays showed minimal to no contact, though, and VAR overturned the decision.
That moment served as a warning for Sevilla, with the hosts still looking more likely to open the scoring.
Carlos Espi nearly capped a flowing move when his low, driven effort forced a smart save from Odysseas Vlachodimos, before Levante finally broke through in the 38th minute.
Jon Ander Olasagasti was the creator, with his superb clipped pass finding Romero, who smashed a powerful half-volley into the net to give his side a deserved 1-0 lead at halftime.

Sevilla could only get better after a poor first 45 minutes, and they made their best chance of the match right after halftime. Lucien Agoumé slipped an inch-perfect through ball to Ruben Vargas, but he lost his composure and blazed his left-footed shot high and wide.
Los Nervionenses kept looking dangerous, and Akor Adams had their next chance to level it, sending a powerful long-range effort just over the bar.
At the other end, Levante had a golden chance to double their lead against the run of play in the 68th minute, but Andrés Castrín made a superb last-ditch block to stop Espí.

Luis Garcia used all five substitutes in the second half, bringing on Alexis Sánchez among others as Sevilla pushed for an equaliser. They thought they had a penalty when Pablo Martínez appeared to handle in the box.
VAR rightly waved away the penalty shouts, though, and Sevilla were dealt another blow when Levante sealed the win in stoppage time. Ugo Raghouber broke clear and squared for Romero to tap into an empty net.
The defeat leaves Sevilla just one point above the bottom three. Levante, meanwhile, moved to within two points of the Rojiblancos after only their fifth home win of the season.
