Swedish sides shine as Frolunda and Skelleftea win in CHL...
Defending CHL champions Frolunda are among eight teams to start 2026/27 with two wins from two, but they made hard work of it with an overtime winner against KooKoo in Gothenburg. SaiPa, meanwhile, responded to a big opening-round defeat by hammering Herning Blue Fox.
Frolunda had an easy night against Finnish opposition in round one, but KooKoo proved far tougher than SaiPa did in their 6-1 loss. Samuel Fagemo gave the hosts a 3rd-minute lead, before Miska Siikonen levelled for KooKoo with five minutes left in the second.
There were no goals in the third, so it went to overtime. KooKoo gave away an early penalty, and Fagemo made no mistake to complete his brace and seal a 2-1 win for Frolunda.
SaiPa put their defeat to the Gothenburg team behind them in emphatic fashion, winning 7-2 in Denmark against Herning Blue Fox. Janne Naukkarinen netted the first of a quick double midway through the first to get them going, and Nick Zabaneh added a shorthanded goal in the middle of three in three minutes in the second.
Herning gave themselves hope with two late goals in the second, but SaiPa killed it off in the third. Naukkarinen grabbed his second to put the result beyond doubt.
Swedish champions Skelleftea sit top after cruising to a 3-1 win away at Adler Mannheim. Vaxjo Lakers got their first points with a 3-1 victory over Nitra, but Rogle are still goalless after following a 4-0 loss to Plzen with a 1-0 defeat at Pardubice.
Finnish champions Tappara fought back from 2-0 down to lead 3-2 at home to Kolner, only to be pegged back. The game went to 4-4 and into overtime, where Ryan MacInnes scored the winner for the German side. Tappara now have one win and one loss.
