Brilliant Bajraktarevic stars as champions PSV cruise past PEC Zwolle...

Esmir Bajraktarevic scored twice and added three assists as PSV ran riot in the second half, beating PEC Zwolle 6-1 in Thursday’s Eredivisie clash to head to Ibiza with a win.

In their first match since being crowned Eredivisie champions, PSV fielded a much-changed lineup against PEC Zwolle. 19-year-old midfielder Joel van den Berg made his full debut and goalkeeper Nick Olij earned his competitive PSV debut, while Couhaib Driouech, Guus Til and Esmir Bajraktarevic started behind Ricardo Pepi, replacing Ivan Perisic, Ismael Saibari and Dennis Man.

PSV wasted no time taking the lead, with Ricardo Pepi heading home a clever cross from Esmir Bajraktarevic to make it 1-0 in the eighth minute.

The newly crowned champions cruised through the rest of the half, denying PEC any space or time to attack. Mauro Junior’s low effort was PSV’s only other real chance in a quiet first half, which even saw Myron Boadu and Armando Obispo join the Mexican wave from the PSV bench.

PEC took a leaf out of PSV’s book and needed less than five minutes to equalise after the break. A superb ball over the top from Ryan Thomas found Odysseus Velanas, who laid it off to Thijs Oosting. Olij denied Oosting, but Zico Buurmeester followed up to fire it home through Ryan Flamingo’s legs.

The dangerous pair of Pepi and Bajraktarevic were unfazed by PEC’s equaliser and linked up again to restore PSV’s lead within minutes. Pepi nodded in another fine Bajraktarevic cross, this time a blind header in off De Graaff’s crossbar.

PEC’s goal seemed to wake PSV up. Bajraktarevic and Van den Berg started peppering De Graaff’s goal as the final third of the match turned one-sided.

Esmir Bajraktarevic capped his superb night with another assist, this time for PEC defender Simon Graves, who blasted the ball into the roof of his own net to seal PSV’s win with 20 minutes left.

It was Bajraktarevic who put an exclamation point on PSV’s night, adding a goal to his tally by firing a long-range shot into De Graaff’s bottom left corner.

PSV dominated the final 20 minutes and stretched the lead further when Bajraktarevic won the ball between three PEC players. He eventually set up Couhaib Driouech to make it 5-1, with the Moroccan turning Guus Til’s lob into an empty net.

Esmir Bajraktarevic kept padding his stats in Eindhoven, finishing off a slick Driouech move by firing past De Graaff. That made it four PSV goals in ten minutes.

PSV’s comfortable win sends the Eindhoven side off to the Spanish island of Ibiza. The Eredivisie champions will holiday there during a short league break for the Dutch national holiday of King’s Day.
