UWCL: OL Lyonnes Thrash Servette 8-0 as Barcelona Begin Title Defence With Win

OL Lyonnes underlined their title credentials with an 8-0 thrashing of Servette in their Women's Champions League opener on Wednesday, as holders Barcelona began their defence with a 5-2 win over Paris FC.

Last season's finalists Lyon thrashed Servette 8-0 in their Women's Champions League opener on Wednesday to stake their title claim, while holders Barcelona swept aside Paris FC 5-2.

French striker Marie-Antoinette Katoto netted a hat-trick against the Swiss champions, with fellow forward Melchie Dumornay adding a brace.

Dumornay was involved in the opener as Laia Balleste turned the ball into her own net, with Magdalena Sobal also scoring an own goal for the home side.

Midfielder Ines Benyahia added the eighth a minute from time for the record eight-time winners, who had rested several first-choice players for the match.

“We wanted to start in the best way possible,” Dumornay told UEFA.

“I'm very happy because we worked a lot together for this result and to avoid conceding a goal,” she added.

Later, Barca made an impressive start to their title defence against Paris FC, with Poland striker Ewa Pajor scoring twice in their bid for a fifth crown.

Brazil forward Kerolin, Spain's Clara Serrajordi and Norway's Caroline Graham Hansen also got on the scoresheet for the Catalans, who lost two-time Ballon d'Or winner Alexia Putellas to London City Lionesses in the summer.

Elsewhere, Wieke Kaptein scored as Chelsea beat Austria Vienna 1-0, while OH Leuven drew 0-0 with Roma in Belgium.

“It was a tough game,” Kaptein told Disney+.

“They put pressure on us and made it a little bit more difficult. We could have scored more goals and we needed to punish them more.

“Overall we won, it's good and now we need to focus on the next game.”
