The Utah Mammoth secured their first home playoff win in franchise history Friday night, beating the Vegas Golden Knights 4-2 to take a 2-1 series lead.

Utah was outshot 31-12 but found a way to win. It marked the first NHL playoff victory witnessed by a Utah home crowd in league history.

Utah goaltender Karel Vejmelka made 29 saves in the Mammoth’s win.

Game 4 between the Mammoth and Golden Knights is set for April 27.

Mammoth Jump Ahead Early Despite Shot Deficit

The Utah Mammoth trailed 18-8 in shots at one point but built a commanding lead Vegas couldn’t overcome.

Weegar Opens Scoring

Mackenzie Weegar opened the scoring for Utah with his second goal of the playoffs to make it 1-0.

McNabb Penalty Sends Utah to Power Play

Three minutes later, Utah got its first power play after Vegas’ Brayden McNabb was called for a two-minute high-sticking minor.

Guenther Cashes In on Man Advantage

Dylan Guenther capitalized, scoring his second goal of the series to give the Mammoth a 2-0 lead with under three minutes left in the first.

Cooley, Keller Notch First Playoff Points

Logan Cooley and Clayton Keller each picked up their first assists of the playoffs on Guenther’s goal.

Utah kept building its lead in the second period, which featured just one penalty against the Mammoth.

Lawson Crouse netted his first goal of the series to make it 3-0. Nick Schmaltz and Weegar both collected their first assists of the playoffs on the goal, just like on Guenther’s.

Crouse scored again to push the Mammoth’s lead to 4-0. His two goals came 5:42 apart, the fastest pair by any player in these playoffs.

Utah’s four goals were the most they’d scored in a game this series, and they did it in just two periods of Game 3.

Vegas finally got on the board before the third, but still entered the period down by three.

Jack Eichel scored his first goal of the playoffs to cut Utah’s lead to 4-1, with Mark Stone and Ivan Barbashev picking up their first assists.

Vegas went into the third outshooting Utah 23-11. The Mammoth had 18 giveaways to Vegas’ eight.

The third was quiet until Vegas showed late life.

Nic Dowd scored his second of the playoffs for Vegas, cutting the lead to 4-2 with 3:08 left.

Vegas pulled the goalie with two minutes to go but couldn’t rally. Utah now leads the series 2-1.
