Cape Verde head coach Bubista has landed a club job with Moroccan side RS Berkane. The announcement came on Tuesday, less than a month after he guided the small island nation to the Round of 32 on their World Cup debut.

There were no contract details released. The move follows long talks over his future, including an option that would have let Bubista stay with Cape Verde and take the Berkane role at the same time.

Reports say the 56-year-old is set to step down as Cape Verde coach in the coming days.

Berkane were Moroccan league champions in 2025 and finished runners-up this season. They also made it to the CAF Champions League semi-finals last year, and will be back in Africa’s premier club competition for the upcoming campaign.

Bubista - real name Pedro Leitao Brito was named 2025 African Coach of the Year after leading Cape Verde to their first-ever World Cup qualification.

At the tournament across Canada, Mexico and the United States, Cape Verde stunned everyone with draws against Spain and Uruguay. Their run ended in the Round of 32 with an extra-time loss to Argentina.
