Everton comeback denies Brentford win despite Igor Thiago's record-breaking brace

Brentford vs Everton: Igor Thiago sets new record for goals scored by a Brentford player in a Premier League season, but late equaliser denies win.

Everton twice come from behind to draw 2-2 with Brentford, despite Igor Thiago's record-breaking goals...

Igor Thiago's record-breaking goals weren't enough for Brentford as Everton staged a dramatic late comeback, snatching a 2-2 draw at the Gtech Community Stadium.

The match was crucial in the race for Europe, with both teams level on 47 points at kick-off, and Everton's late leveller denying Brentford a vital win.

The Bees had drawn their previous three outings but wasted no time shaking off any rust after over three weeks without a game.

Inside two minutes, Kevin Schade burst through on goal before being brought down by Jordan Pickford, leaving the Everton goalkeeper helpless as Thiago calmly dispatched the resulting spot-kick.

Brentford remained largely untroubled until the Toffees finally showed signs of life midway through the half. Kiernan Dewsbury‑Hall fizzed a superb pass across the box, but Beto arrived a fraction too late to apply the finishing touch.

Minutes later, the burly marksman would be more clinical, using his frame to hold off his marker and nod in from close range to draw Everton level with his third goal in two matches.

The two sides remained deadlocked as they headed into the second period, but again the home side started quickly. Nathan Collins’ header rattled the Everton crossbar as Brentford set the tone early and attacked with renewed vigour having faded in the latter stages of the opening half.

Much to the visitors’ credit, however, David Moyes’ men once again navigated their way through Brentford’s spell of dominance and almost snatched the lead when Iliman Ndiaye’s deflected effort forced Caoimhin Kelleher to react well.

As Everton continued to grow in confidence, Dewsbury-Hall spurned a golden opportunity when his swivel and shot was smothered by Kelleher at close range.

That save proved pivotal as Brentford restored their lead against the run of play. Michael Kayode's low strike deflected off Thiago, wrong-footing Pickford and allowing the Bees to retake the lead thanks to the Brazilian's 21st PL goal.

The Bees initially held firm under late Everton pressure, but Dewsbury-Hall had the decisive word in stoppage time, rifling in a loose ball to rescue a point for the visitors.

Both sides miss the chance to climb into the top six, but remain in contention for European qualification.
