Carrick dismisses Paul Scholes' criticism, focusing on Aston Villa clash...

Manchester United interim manager Michael Carrick is expecting a strong reaction from his team against Aston Villa this weekend. The Red Devils are looking to bounce back from their first defeat under Carrick, a 2-1 loss to Newcastle United, and are eager to get back to winning ways at Old Trafford.

Carrick's Confidence Amidst Criticism

Carrick has brushed off criticism from former teammate Paul Scholes, saying he's not worried about the comments and is focused on the team's performance. He also mentioned that midfielder Mason Mount has taken a “big step” and could return from a two-month absence against Villa.

United are currently third in the Premier League, tied with Villa on 51 points, and will be looking to maintain their push for a Champions League spot. Carrick is optimistic about the team's chances, saying they're “itching to get going” and have been training well this week.

Michael Carrick's impressive stint as interim manager has seen Manchester United win six of their eight matches, propelling them into third place in the Premier League. This strong performance puts them in a great position to secure a Champions League spot for next season. Carrick, who took over after Ruben Amorim's dismissal in January, has brought stability and positivity to the team, earning him praise from fans and pundits alike.

Carrick Praises Villa Star Morgan Rogers

Michael Carrick is delighted to see Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers thriving under Unai Emery's management, wishing him well ahead of the World Cup this summer. Carrick's positive comments highlight the respect between the two managers, setting the stage for a thrilling matchup at Old Trafford.

“It's fantastic for me to see Morgan going on to do so well. And he's done it for a good period of time now, you know, and he had the initial signing in January. I wasn't really sure how it was going to go.

“It was a step for him and I hadn't really played for an awful long time at Middlesbrough, really, so I naturally felt probably he could have done a little bit more, but as soon as he's gone, Aston Villa and... He's taking huge steps and quickly and being a major, major part of their team and part of the England team as well. It just shows how well he's done.

“I enjoy seeing him do so well. Obviously when we come against him it's a different story, but nevertheless he's a good person, he's really great to work with, so I'm delighted he's doing so well.”

Carrick's Response to Tough Test Question

Michael Carrick, Manchester United's interim manager, is embracing the challenge ahead, describing the upcoming Aston Villa clash as a “huge clash.” He believes the team has had a good week of training and is excited for the game, despite their recent 2-1 loss to Newcastle United.

Team Preparation and Expectations

Carrick has praised the team's response to the Newcastle defeat. He expects a tough match against Aston Villa, who are currently fourth in the Premier League table, but is confident in his team's abilities.

“It's always about what's next, what you're going to react, whether you've won, whether or not you've drawn, what's going to be the reaction, what's the group, what are the emotions in it, how do we make the best of it, what is the motivation for the next game and driving that forward.

“I understand with it being the first defeat (against Newcastle), if you like, it feels a little bit different, but it's going to come at some point. You look through the league, it's a tough league.

“Most teams if not every team has suffered that in recent times so it's putting things in perspective really and kind of putting it in shape where we know where we can improve, what we can do better, we're taking a lot of confidence from as a group what we can and what we show we can achieve and how we can play so it has been a really good week in many ways and excited, it's an important game, there's no getting away from it, it is there.

“There's an awful lot to play for, so I'm fully embracing the situation at the moment and looking forward to the next game.”
