Chelsea bounced back to winning ways with a 4-1 thrashing of Aston Villa, thanks to Joao Pedro's hat-trick at Villa Park. The win closes the gap on fourth-placed Villa, who had been looking comfortable in the UCL qualification spots.

Aston Villa had started strong, taking the lead in just three minutes through Douglas Luiz's clever backheel, but Chelsea's response was clinical, with Joao Pedro leading the charge.

Chelsea bounced back strong from their Matchday 28 loss to Arsenal, with Pedro's header forcing a crucial save from Emiliano Martinez early on. Cole Palmer also had a chance, but Martinez handled it comfortably. The equalizer finally came when Pedro tapped in Malo Gusto's precise low cross.

The hosts grew in confidence midway through the half and had a slew of chances themselves.

Ollie Watkins was the main threat and, after twice testing incoming goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen, the England international thought he had restored his team’s lead by pouncing on Reece James’ loose pass and burying into the corner.

However, the goal was ruled out for the narrowest of offsides, and the visitors ultimately took advantage of their reprieve in the seventh of eight additional minutes.

Pedro has arguably been the Blues’ most decisive player since Liam Rosenior’s arrival as head coach, and his delightful chip over Martinez for his 13th Premier League goal of the season put his side in front at the interval.

Chelsea pushed hard for more goals after halftime, and it paid off when Cole Palmer scored, giving them some breathing room. Palmer's strike came after Emiliano Martinez pushed Reece James' cross into a dangerous area, and it was the perfect opportunity for Chelsea to capitalize.

Chelsea were flying by then, and it showed in their build-up to the fourth goal. Cole Palmer's perfect through ball set up Alejandro Garnacho, who squared it for Pedro to seal his hat-trick.

Garnacho could have added extra gloss to the scoreline, but his effort from close-range was kept out by Martinez. All in all, though, this was a fantastic evening for Rosenior and Co., with Chelsea closing the gap on the top four.

Villa, meanwhile, have now won just one of their past six at home - hardly the kind of form required to secure a place in next season’s UCL.
