Bafana Bafana faces Panama in key attacking prowess gets tough test against Bafana Bafana as World Cup approaches...

Panama's prep for the 2026 World Cup is heating up, with two friendlies against Bafana Bafana this month. The matches in Durban (March 27) and Cape Town (March 31) should see both teams at full strength, giving Bafana a solid gauge of their standing.

Panama's form ahead of their two friendly internationals against Bafana Bafana is crucial as they take on Panama in two international friendly matches this month during the FIFA window, with clashes in Durban on March 27 and Cape Town on March 31, as both teams build towards the 2026 World Cup.

With the fixtures falling in the international window and just a few months out from the World Cup, it is envisaged that both squads will be at full strength, barring injury, which gives a good litmus test for Bafana as to where they stand.

Facing African opposition makes sense for Panama, though Ghana's aggressive and direct style differs from Bafana Bafana's more technical approach. Bafana focus on ball control and technical quality rather than power, under coach Hugo Broos.

The friendlies are a chance for Bafana to prep for their World Cup opener against Mexico on June 11, and the styles of Panama and Mexico aren't too dissimilar, making these games useful for Broos' team.

Panama are currently ranked 33rd in the world, down three spots from their previous position, and were as high as 29th last year. Bafana, on the other hand, are struggling at 60th.

Panama's 13-game unbeaten streak ended with a 1-0 loss to Mexico in January, but both teams fielded weakened squads, making it tough to read into the result.

Their unbeaten run began after a 2-1 loss to Mexico in the CONCACAF Nations League final last March, followed by eight wins and five draws from their next 13 games.

That unbeaten run included a penalty shoot-out loss to Honduras in the CONCACAF Gold Cup quarter-finals, showing Panama's ability to compete at a high level. Panama's attack is clearly a strength.

They've got goalscoring firepower, scoring in 12 of 13 fixtures, with a 26-goal tally and just nine conceded - an impressive average of almost two goals per game.

Panama's defensive solidity is notable, with four consecutive clean sheets away from home, suggesting a tactic of soaking up pressure and hitting on the counter - a strategy that's served them well. Their coach, Thomas Christiansen, is a former striker with experience playing for Spain.

Ahead of the World Cup, Panama's got Brazil on May 31 in Rio de Janeiro, then Ghana on June 17 in Toronto - tough tests before the tournament kicks off.
