Tottenham parts ways with Thomas Frank, searches for new boss. Thomas Frank sack cames after 2-1 loss to Newcastle, and appointing fifth manager since Pochettino

“Throughout his time at the Club, Thomas has conducted himself with unwavering commitment...”

Thomas Frank has been sacked by Tottenham Hotspur after a disappointing 2-1 home loss to Newcastle, leaving the club 16th in the Premier League standings. Frank, who joined Spurs from Brentford in June, had a tough time, winning just 7 of 26 league games and struggling with injuries to key players like James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski.

Thomas Frank's departure marks the end of an eight-month tenure, making him the sixth permanent manager since Mauricio Pochettino left in 2019. The club's statement thanked Frank for his “unwavering commitment” and wished him success in the future. Possible replacements include Roberto De Zerbi, Oliver Glasner, Xabi Alonso, and Marco Silva.

The defeat to the Magpies was the final nail in the coffin, coming after a string of poor results and growing discontent among fans and the board.

The club announced the sacking on X by saying: “The Club has taken the decision to make a change in the Men’s Head Coach position and Thomas Frank will leave today.

“Thomas was appointed in June 2025, and we have been determined to give him the time and support needed to build for the future together.

“However, results and performances have led the Board to conclude that a change at this point in the season is necessary.

“Throughout his time at the Club, Thomas has conducted himself with unwavering commitment, giving everything in his efforts to move the Club forward. We would like to thank him for his contribution and wish him every success in the future.”

Tottenham has officially parted ways with Thomas Frank, making him the club's fifth permanent manager since Mauricio Pochettino left in 2019. Frank, who joined from Brentford in June 2025, had a reputation for being a shrewd operator, having led the Bees from Championship contenders to established Premier League competitors.

Despite his impressive credentials, Frank's tenure was marked by inconsistent results and a style that failed to impress fans. His contract was set to run until 2028, but the club has decided to make a change, citing a need for improvement in results and performances. Pochettino, who is currently coaching the US national team, is rumored to be a leading candidate to return to Spurs.

Alarming Stats

Thomas Frank's tenure was marked by concerning results, winning just 7 of 26 Premier League games, drawing 8, and losing 11. His home record was particularly poor, with only 2 league wins in 13 matches, and struggles against weaker opposition.

A Tough Act to Follow

Frank's 26.9% win rate from 26 league matches is a far cry from Pochettino's 54% win rate over nearly 5 seasons. Even Mourinho managed 51% despite struggles with the squad and style issues.

Comparing Managers

Conte's turbulent tenure saw a 53% win rate, thanks to a strong first season. Postecoglou's time, despite struggles, had a win rate in the high 40s - still ahead of Frank's 26.9%.

Damning Performances

Heavy defeats to rivals, like the 4-1 loss to Arsenal, and a lack of attacking flair fueled fan discontent. Spurs also exited domestic cups early, and their Champions League hopes look shaky.

Next Boss Contenders

Pochettino, Oliver Glasner, Xabi Alonso, and Marco Silva are top contenders for the Spurs job.
