EPL: Liam Rosenior Labels Chelsea's Late Surrender “Bitter Pill” in 2-2 Leeds Draw
| Chelsea blow two-goal advantage as Rosenior laments lack of composure |
Liam Rosenior described Chelsea's inability to stay composed under pressure as a “bitter pill” after they squandered a two-goal lead in Tuesday's 2-2 draw against Leeds.
“It's not about reacting to setbacks. You're always going to have a spell in the game when you're not on top...”
Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior described the collapse against Leeds as a “bitter pill” after his side blew a 2-0 lead. Chelsea had looked on track for a fifth straight Premier League win thanks to Joao Pedro's opener and Cole Palmer's penalty.
"That's unacceptable if they've come with that judgement"

Chelsea's dreams of moving up the table were dashed as they collapsed in the closing stages at Stamford Bridge, allowing Leeds to snatch a 2-2 draw. Lukas Nmecha's penalty gave Leeds hope, and Noah Okafor capitalized on a defensive mix-up to equalize. This collapse cost the Blues a chance to overtake Manchester United for fourth place, leaving manager Liam Rosenior frustrated with their careless defending.
The Blues had been in control, leading 2-0 through Joao Pedro and Cole Palmer's penalty, but a chaotic sequence of events led to Leeds' equalizer. Jayden Bogle's tenacity and Chelsea's hesitancy contributed to the goal, with Rosenior questioning the handball decision. “Two key moments in the game that we don't take care of. We don't stay calm. How the play gets there, we make a few poor decisions in the way we press and we give away a penalty,” he said.
“I can't remember Leeds having a shot or a moment in the game. Some of our football in possession, our press and our energy was everything I wanted to see.
“That makes it even more of a bitter pill to swallow that we haven't won the game.”
Leeds' equaliser was a result of Jayden Bogle's determination to outmaneuver Chelsea's defense, combined with the Blues' own hesitation in dealing with the threat. Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior felt his team should've been awarded a free-kick.
The goal sparked controversy, with Chelsea arguing Bogle handled the ball, but VAR ruled it was accidental and allowed the goal to stand.
“The lad handballs it,” he said. “It affects my players in that moment. They think it's a handball, they switch off, we don't clear the ball and they score. Then for 25 minutes it was wave after wave of attack.”
Liam Rosenior has looked solid so far, making a decent impression since taking over from Enzo Maresca in January.
Chelsea's League Cup semi-final exit to Arsenal and the recent draw to Leeds show that Liam Rosenior still has work to do to get the team clicking. The former Hull boss is facing challenges, but he's known for his aggressive and front-foot football style, which fans are excited to see in action.
“We have to make sure we take care of moments and be professional,” Rosenior said.
“It's not about reacting to setbacks. You're always going to have a spell in the game when you're not on top.
“The ridiculous thing for us is that they've managed to score two goals in a five-minute period when for the other 90 minutes we were by far the better team.”
