West Ham United has appointed Nuno Espirito Santo as their new manager, replacing Graham Potter, who was sacked after a poor start to the Premier League season. The 51-year-old Portuguese manager joins West Ham on a three-year contract, just 18 days after being dismissed by Nottingham Forest due to a public fallout with owner Evangelos Marinakis.

Nuno Espirito Santo's appointment comes after West Ham's disappointing start to the season, with the team sitting second-bottom of the table after losing four of their opening five fixtures. Graham Potter leaves the club after nine months in charge, with his departure making him the third West Ham manager to depart within a year, following Julen Lopetegui and David Moyes.

Nuno will take charge of his first match against Everton on Monday, where West Ham will face their former manager David Moyes. In his first training session, Nuno has already begun preparations for the match, supported by academy coaches Mark Robson, Steve Potts, Gerard Prenderville, and Billy Lepine. He expressed his enthusiasm, saying, "I am very pleased to be here and very proud to be representing West Ham United. My objective is to work hard to get the very best from the team and ensure that we are as competitive as we possibly can be.”

“The work has already started and I am looking forward to the challenge that is ahead.”

Nuno Espirito Santo's New Chapter at West Ham

Nuno Espirito Santo is getting another shot at Premier League success with West Ham United, where he'll aim to turn the team's fortunes around after a rough start to the season. This comes after he was sacked by Nottingham Forest earlier this month due to a reported breakdown in his relationship with the club's owner, Evangelos Marinakis.

Nuno Espirito Santo will take charge of his first game for West Ham on Monday night when they face Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. West Ham had a disappointing start to the season, managing only one win in their first five Premier League games, and sacked Graham Potter to bring in Nuno on a three-year deal.

With experience managing top clubs like Wolverhampton Wanderers and Tottenham Hotspur, Nuno Espirito Santo has shown his ability to guide teams to success. He previously led Nottingham Forest to European qualification with a seventh-place finish last season, demonstrating his potential to boost West Ham's performance.

West Ham United will face Everton, led by their former manager David Moyes, who departed in 2024 after securing the UEFA Conference League title - the club's first major trophy in 43 years. Nuno Espirito Santo, the newly appointed manager, will make his debut against Moyes, who has had success against him in the past, winning four of their seven encounters.

Under Graham Potter, West Ham struggled, conceding 13 goals in the first five games and sitting 19th in the Premier League. They also exited the League Cup after a loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers. Potter's sacking led to Nuno's appointment, and the Portuguese manager aims to turn the team's fortunes around.

The match is scheduled for Monday, September 30, at 8 pm UK time, with Everton looking to capitalize on the “new manager bounce” phenomenon, where teams often struggle under new leadership. Moyes might have an edge, given Nuno's recent record against Everton, having lost four of his last five matches against the Toffees.

“Results and performances over the course of the second half of last season and the start of the 2025-26 season have not matched expectations,” West Ham said.

“The Board of Directors believe that a change is necessary in order to help improve the team's position in the Premier League as soon as possible.”
