West Ham United parts ways with Graham Potter, leaving a caretaker manager in charge for the upcoming match against Everton. Get the latest updates.

“Results and performances over the course of the second half of last season and the start of the 2025/26 season have not...”

West Ham United has confirmed the sacking of manager Graham Potter after a dismal start to the 2025-26 Premier League season. Potter's departure comes after just eight months in charge, with the team winning only one game since August - a 3-0 away victory over Nottingham Forest. The club's board of directors believes a change is necessary to improve the team's position in the Premier League as soon as possible.

Key Details:

  • Potter's Record: Graham Potter won just six of 23 Premier League games during his tenure, with West Ham sitting 19th in the table with only three points from their opening five matches.
  • Reason for Sacking: The club cited “results and performances over the course of the second half of last season and the start of the 2025/26 season have not matched expectations” as the reason for Potter's dismissal.
  • Interim Plans: West Ham travels to Everton on Monday night without a permanent manager, although former Nottingham Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo is reportedly close to signing a contract to replace Potter

In a statement, the club said: “Results and performances over the course of the second half of last season and the start of the 2025/26 season have not matched expectations, and the Board of Directors believe that a change is necessary in order to help improve the team’s position in the Premier League as soon as possible.

They added: “The Club can confirm that Assistant Coach Bruno Saltor, First Team Coaches Billy Reid and Narcis Pelach, Lead Goalkeeper Coach Casper Ankergren, and Goalkeeper Coach Linus Kandolin have also left with immediate effect.”

Graham Potter's tenure at West Ham United was marked by struggles, with the team winning only six of his 25 games in charge. This dismal run culminated in his sacking after a 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace. The search for a new manager is already underway, with potential candidates including Slaven Bilic, who has been mentioned for a possible return to the Hammers, and Nuno Espirito Santo.

Meanwhile, West Ham's upcoming match against Everton on Monday will be led by a caretaker manager, as the club hasn't officially announced a replacement for Potter yet. Everton is expected to have an advantage, given West Ham's struggles this season. In their last five league games, West Ham has lost four and won only one, while Everton has managed two wins, one draw, and two losses.
