Manchester Derby Incident: Man Charged with Assaulting Jack Grealish

A 20-year-old man has been charged with assault for allegedly slapping Manchester City winger Jack Grealish after the Manchester derby at Old Trafford.

A 20-year-old man, Alfie Holt from Droylsden, has been charged with assault for allegedly slapping Manchester City winger Jack Grealish after the Manchester derby. The incident occurred near the tunnel at Old Trafford's Stretford End following the 0-0 draw between Manchester City and Manchester United on Sunday. Holt is set to appear at Manchester Magistrates Court on July 14.

The alleged assault happened as Grealish was walking back to the tunnel after being substituted out of the game. Fortunately, Jack Grealish is not thought to have been seriously injured in the incident. Manchester City and Manchester United declined to comment on the matter due to the ongoing police investigation.

The case highlights the intense rivalry between the two Manchester teams, which was also evident in the derogatory chants directed at City midfielder Phil Foden by some United fans during the match. The FA has condemned these chants but won't take further action against Manchester United. City's manager, Pep Guardiola, criticized the behavior, calling it a ”lack of class.”

A police spokesperson confirmed that an incident occurred at Old Trafford football club on Sunday, stating, “This charge relates to an incident which took place at Old Trafford football club on Sunday.” Manchester United chose not to comment on the matter, while Manchester City has yet to respond to a request for comment.
