David Moyes Set for Milestone 700th Premier League Match

Everton manager David Moyes is set to celebrate his 700th Premier League match, a milestone only two other managers have achieved.

Everton manager David Moyes is on the verge of achieving a remarkable milestone, as he prepares to take charge of his 700th Premier League game on Saturday. Moyes described this accomplishment as “incredible,” highlighting the significance of his longevity in the top flight. Everton, currently 16th with 20 points, will visit Brighton for this landmark match.

Moyes will become only the third manager to reach 700 Premier League games, joining an elite group that includes Arsenal's Arsene Wenger (828 games) and Manchester United's Alex Ferguson (810 games). At 61, Moyes is the oldest manager in the division, while Brighton's Fabian Hurzeler is the youngest at 31. Reflecting on his achievement, Moyes said, “It's incredible really. When you start out, I don't think you ever believe you will become a Premier League manager, but to get 700 games behind me is a fair achievement, I am very pleased.”

Moyes acknowledged the impressive records of Wenger and Ferguson, humbly admitting that he does not expect to surpass their numbers. “There's two great managers ahead of me, Arsene and Alex. I don't think I'll be making their numbers, that's for sure,” he said. Moyes has had a varied and accomplished career in the English top flight, with managerial stints at West Ham United, Manchester United, Sunderland, and two spells at Everton.

Moyes' managerial journey began at Everton in 2002, when he was appointed at the age of 39, making him the youngest manager in the Premier League at the time. He recalled receiving words of wisdom from the late Sir Bobby Robson, who was 30 years his senior. “I remember Sir Bobby giving me some words of wisdom. It is amazing how things have changed, and I have been very fortunate and lucky to have been given opportunities at clubs,” Moyes added.
