Giannis powers first Heat win, Wemby drops 36 and Rockets stay perfect, move to 5-0...

The Miami Heat finally got their first win of the season after the arrival of Giannis Antetokounmpo, beating the Atlanta Hawks 129-117 on Wednesday.

The Greek superstar and two-time MVP was expected to instantly turn Miami into an Eastern Conference contender, but his first victory in a Heat jersey came on his fifth try.

Antetokounmpo, who posted a triple-double in a loss to Dallas two nights earlier, put up another big stat line with 24 points and 18 rebounds.

He had support this time around from Bam Adebayo, who finished with 24 points and nine rebounds, and Andrew Wiggins, who chipped in 18.

Former Bucks star Antetokounmpo hit 1,000 career steals, while Adebayo passed Udonis Haslem's franchise mark of 5,791 to become Miami's all-time leading rebounder.

“I can't really put it into words, man. I just wish I could have did it at the crib,” Adebayo said at State Farm Arena in Atlanta.

Miami finally got in the win column.

The star-studded Philadelphia 76ers responded to Sunday's letdown against Detroit by improving to 4-1 with a 114-109 back-and-forth win over the Indiana Pacers.

LeBron James and the Sixers had trouble putting Indiana away. The Pacers announced this week that star guard Tyrese Haliburton will miss about two weeks with a hamstring injury.

Philadelphia trailed after a lopsided third quarter but surged late to secure the road win.

Tyrese Maxey saved his team with 17 of his 27 points coming in a scorching fourth quarter.

James finished with just 13 points but dished out 10 assists, while Joel Embiid posted 21 points and 11 rebounds and Jaylen Brown added 20.

“JB and and Bron kind of got on me for not being aggressive the first three quarters. When JB checked back in the game in the fourth quarter, he said, 'you owe us, take us home,'” Maxey said.[Embiid]

“I just gotta do what my vets tell me to do.”

The Oklahoma City Thunder took their first loss of the season, getting blown out 120-96 by the Dallas Mavericks.

A win would have made the Thunder the first team in NBA history to open three straight seasons 5-0, but Cooper Flagg denied them with 26 points and eight assists for Dallas.

“I think we just got guys that are bought into a winning culture,” said the 19-year-old star Flagg.

Rookie debuts and Wembanyama shines

Top pick AJ Dybantsa finally made his NBA debut in Washington's 121-111 defeat to Cleveland.

After sitting out the Wizards' first four games with a sprained ankle, the 19-year-old was thrown straight into the starting lineup on Wednesday and delivered 19 points.

The Cavs took control in the fourth quarter to close it out, led by Donovan Mitchell with 19 points and seven assists.

Meanwhile in San Antonio, Victor Wembanyama dominated with 36 points and 14 boards as the Spurs beat Utah 117-111 for their third consecutive win.

The Houston Rockets one of three teams still unbeaten  became the first to reach 5-0 after routing the Bucks 132-100.

Fred VanVleet led the way with 24 points, and Amen Thompson chipped in 23.
