Harry Kane has been named the winner of the 2026 Ballon d'Or. The Bayern Munich forward is now the fifth English player to claim football's top individual honour, ending a 25-year wait since Michael Owen last won it for England.

His victory marks the sixth time an Englishman has lifted the trophy, following Stanley Matthews in 1956, Bobby Charlton in 1966, Kevin Keegan in 1978 and 1979, and Owen in 2001.

Argentina icon Lionel Messi still holds the record for the most Ballon d'Or titles with eight, while Cristiano Ronaldo sits second on the all-time list with five wins.

The Ballon d'Or has been presented since 1956, when it was established by France Football magazine. Between 2010 and 2015, the prize was merged with FIFA's award to recognise the best player in the world for six years.
