SJK Cruise Past HJK To Boost Veikkausliiga Survival Hopes

Only Mariehamn, still without a win, sat below SJK before kick-off. The Seinäjoki side came into the game on a three-match losing run, while HJK were chasing a third straight victory that would have lifted them to third.

The opening 45 minutes set the pattern for a difficult night for the visitors. HJK dominated possession and built some good chances, but couldn’t turn control into a goal.

That wastefulness cost them early in the second half. In the 55th minute SJK broke quickly down the left and Eetu Mommo’s delivery was finished by Kelwin. Five minutes later it was 2-0 - Eze Onuoha played in Jeremiah Streng, who scored his fourth of the campaign.

Incredibly, SJK made it 3-0 just five minutes later to leave the Helsinki team stunned. Murilo Henrique picked up possession on the left touchline around halfway, kept driving forward, and when it looked like he would cut it back, he instead fired in at the near post from a tight angle to catch the goalkeeper out.

The result was only SJK’s fourth league win of the season, but it lifts them above Jaro into 10th and gives their survival bid a boost. For HJK, they remain just three points above the relegation group spots with four matches left in the regular season.
