Real Madrid Target Konate on Free Transfer After Liverpool Exit
Liverpool confirm Ibrahima Konate’s free transfer exit after 183 games and a Premier League title. Real Madrid linked with move.
“I think everyone wished for that for as long as possible but we are in a good way...”
Liverpool have announced centre-back Ibrahima Konate will depart on a free transfer when his deal runs out.
The 27-year-old defender has been a mainstay at Anfield since arriving from RB Leipzig in 2021. He made 183 appearances for the Reds and was a key figure in their 2024-25 Premier League title-winning season.
The club confirmed Konate will walk away for nothing once his contract expires at the end of the current campaign.
Back in April, Konate suggested he wanted to stay at Anfield and was nearing terms on a contract extension.
“My future? There are many things people have said but for a long time we have spoken with the club and we are close to an agreement,” he said.
“I think everyone wished for that for as long as possible but we are in a good way.
“There is a big chance I’m here next season. This is what I always wanted. I’m waiting to sort the contract but when everything is sorted you will have to ask Richard (Hughes) what I said to him in September, November and he’s going to say something to make everyone quiet.”
Liverpool FC can confirm Ibrahima Konate is set to leave the club upon the expiry of his contract this summer.

Konate will depart with our gratitude and appreciation for the contribution he made and everyone at the club wishes him the best for the future.
Real Madrid are reportedly eyeing a free transfer swoop like the one that landed Trent Alexander-Arnold at the Bernabéu last season.
