Oulu Stay Hot, Cut Inter’s Lead With 2-1 Win Over Jaro

AC Oulu picked up another three points at home on Sunday, beating bottom-half Jaro 2-1 to close the round. The hosts were made to work for it though, with Jaro showing more fight after finally getting their first win of the season last time out.

The first half finished 0-0, but Oulu broke through right after the restart. Julius Korkko met a corner with his head, and the ball deflected off Juha Pirinen before trickling over the line.

Jaro hit back soon after, earning a penalty when Herman Sjogrell stepped up. Miguel Santos saved it. From the next corner, Michael Ogungbaro flicked the ball back across and Aron Bjonback headed it in to level.

The draw lasted only three minutes. Goalkeeper Senne Vits fouled Kalifa Jatta in the box, and Rasmus Karjalainen converted the spot kick to put Oulu back in front. That’s three straight wins for Oulu. For 10th-place Jaro, it’s four defeats in their last five.

KuPS Hold Inter, Let Oulu Close the Gap

Oulu are now three points behind Inter Turku after the leaders were held 1-1 by third-place KuPS. Alie Conteh put KuPS up nine minutes into the second half, but Jaime Moreno answered just after the hour to level it. Both teams extended their unbeaten runs to five league games.

Lahti Roar Back With 5-0 Rout of Ilves

Lahti snapped a four-game winless run in emphatic fashion, climbing above Ilves with a 5-0 thrashing. Amir Belabid scored twice and then set up Aaron Lindholm for the third inside 17 minutes. Erik Andersson missed a penalty mid-first half but atoned right after the break from the spot. Ilves gave away another penalty later, Daniel Heikkinen’s save wasn’t enough as he followed up his own rebound to finish it off.

Gnistan Edge SJK 3-2 for Third Win in Five

Gnistan sit eighth, right between Lahti and Ilves, after beating SJK 3-2 for their third win in five. SJK still have just one win all season. Ayo Obileye opened for Gnistan, but Olatoundji Tessilimi leveled late in the first half. After the break Marcelo Costa and Gabriel Europaeus put the hosts ahead, and Eze Onuoha’s late strike was only a consolation.

Ring Penalty Lifts HJK Past Mariehamn 1-0

HJK ended a three-game winless run and kept SJK off the bottom by beating winless Mariehamn 1-0. Alex Ring converted a penalty right after halftime, and that was enough for all three points. The result lifts HJK to fourth, though they’re still nine points behind the leaders.
