Superliga: FC Midtjylland Draw 0-0, Title Race Slips Away

FC Midtjylland took another blow in their battle with AGF for the Danish championship after a 0-0 draw away to FC Nordsjaelland. The result means league leaders AGF now need just one win from their final two games against Brondby and Viborg to clinch the title.

AGF remain firmly in control of the race after Midtjylland were held goalless in Farum on Sunday.

If AGF beat Brondby away at 18:00 CET on Sunday, they’ll secure their first Danish league title in 40 years.

FC Midtjylland needed a win to stay in touch with AGF but couldn’t find a way past a resolute FC Nordsjaelland defense.

The visitors came under heavy pressure early, with the hosts controlling possession and carving out several chances.

Caleb Yirenkyi went close with a header just wide of the far post after 20 minutes, and before halftime goalkeeper Elias Olafsson made a pair of outstanding reflex saves to keep Midtjylland level.

Olafsson first stopped Ibrahim Adel’s close-range header, then got a hand to a powerful shot from Lamine Sadio from point-blank range.

Midtjylland struggled to create going forward, but around the half-hour mark Edward Chilufya broke through one-on-one and blazed his effort well over the bar.

The game became more balanced after the break, with both sides carving out chances to take all three points.

It turned into an open, end-to-end contest in the second half as each team pushed for a winner.

Juho Lahteenmaki should have scored when the ball bounced to him in the box off a couple of deflections, but he couldn’t make clean contact.

In a frantic closing spell, Junior Brumado missed a golden counter-attacking chance in the 75th minute when his shot came back off the crossbar.

Neither side could find a breakthrough, so the match finished 0-0 in Farum. The result means Midtjylland’s winless run there continues, having not won in Farum for five years.
