Skelleftea reclaimed the Swedish Hockey League title with a 4-1 series win over Rogle, sealing it with a 7-3 home victory in game five. It’s the second time in three seasons SAIK have lifted the Le Mat Trophy.

A 3-2 win on the road in game three left Skelleftea one victory from the championship, and they finished the job at home in front of their own fans. The title is SAIK’s fifth SHL playoff crown and fourth since 2013.

Rogle knew they needed at least one win in Skelleftea to stay alive, but heavy defeats of 4-1 and 5-1 in the first two games up north had already dented their confidence. That didn’t stop them starting fast, as they opened the scoring inside 10 minutes.

Isac Solberg fed the puck back from behind the net for Mark Friedman to fire home first time, and after Victor Stjernborg held the puck in the zone, Lubos Horky capped a patient power-play sequence with a quick shot to make it 2-0.

After that early burst, Skelleftea took control and Rogle’s lack of discipline proved costly before the end of the first period. Penalties to Linus Sjodin and Daniel Zaar were both punished on the power play, with Oscar Lindberg scoring the first before Mikkel Aargaard scrambled in the equaliser.

The regular season winners went ahead four minutes into the second when Emil Djuse and Viktor Grahn combined for Grahn’s second goal in two games. Five minutes later, Valter Lindberg stripped Rogle behind their net and set up Oliver Okuliar for an easy finish.

Skelleftea’s fifth unanswered goal, and Okuliar’s second of the night, made it 7-3 midway through the third period. Mark Friedman pulled one back to get Rogle within two, but any hopes of a comeback ended late on when Victor Stjernborg and Rickard Hugg scored into an empty net to wrap up the 7-3 win and spark the home celebrations.

Rogle, winners of the 2022 Champions Hockey League, are still waiting for their first SHL title. The Le Mat Trophy goes to Skelleftea, and Oscar Lindberg was named playoff MVP, taking home the Stefan Liv Memorial Trophy.
