Sevilla Beat Sociedad to Climb Above Alaves with Four Games Left

Sanchez strike lifts sevilla out of LaLiga relegation zone

VAR ruled out a late Lucien Agoume goal, but Sevilla held on for just their second win in nine games to escape the drop zone.

The result leaves Sevilla above Alaves with four matches remaining in the LaLiga season.

Alexis Sanchez came off the bench to score the winner as Sevilla beat Real Sociedad 1-0 and moved out of the LaLiga relegation zone with four games remaining.

Chidera Ejuke forced a sharp save from Alex Remiro early on, and Andres Castrin and Nemanja Gudelj also went close as Sevilla dominated the first 30 minutes.

Real Sociedad, with only three away wins in the league all season, spent most of the half under pressure.

Despite controlling the final third, Sevilla couldn’t break through. Neal Maupay volleyed wide from close range and Ejuke blazed over after a strong run into the box.

The hosts didn’t let their first-half misses faze them. Five minutes after the restart, half-time substitute Alexis Sanchez finished off good work from Maupay with a clinical strike into the far corner.

With the lead in hand, Luis Garcia’s side slowed the game down in the final 30 minutes, and neither team created much in front of goal.

Sevilla thought they had made it 2-0 in the 80th minute when Lucien Agoume finished calmly in the box, but VAR ruled it out for offside.

Real Sociedad took advantage of the reprieve and pushed for an equaliser late on. Pellegrino Matarazzo’s men couldn’t find a way through though, and Sevilla held on for just their second win in nine LaLiga games to climb out of the relegation zone above Alaves.
