Torino Vs Sassuolo
Torino rally late to beat Sassuolo, extend unbeaten home run

Torino climbed to 12th in Serie A after a quickfire turnaround saw them beat Sassuolo 2-1 at home, ending the visitors’ hopes of taking points on Friday night.

Giovanni Simeone scored for a fifth straight home game as Torino beat Sassuolo 2-1, with Kristjan Thorstvedt opening the scoring for the visitors...

Sassuolo went ahead in the second half at Torino on Friday night, but the hosts responded with two goals in four minutes to stretch their unbeaten home streak to five games. Kristjan Thorstvedt, Giovanni Simeone and Marcus Holmgren Pedersen got on the scoresheet.

Torino had lost 2-0 to Udinese in their previous outing and made two changes to the starting lineup. Sassuolo boss Fabio Grosso, despite a 2-0 win over Milan last weekend, reshuffled half his outfield players, bringing Andrea Pinamonti, Cristian Volpato and Luca Lipani back into the XI.

Pinamonti had the first shot on target inside two minutes after Cristian Volpato played him into the box. He aimed for the far corner, but Alberto Paleari was well placed to keep it out.

Gvidas Gineitis had to adjust for Torino’s first effort on target in the 10th minute, and Arijanet Muric dived to his left to deal with what was ultimately a weak attempt.

Alieu Njie was agonizingly close to breaking the deadlock when his header from Gineitis’s corner hit the crossbar twice. Part of the ball crossed the line, but not enough for it to count.

At the opposite end, Lipani drove all the way to the edge of the six-yard box unchallenged, but the tight angle and Paleari rushing out left him with little room to finish.

The deadlock was broken five minutes into the second half. Nemanja Matic’s shot from outside the box was blocked, but the ball fell to Lipani, who squeezed a cross in from the right byline and Kristjan Thorstvedt tapped home from close range.

Torino hit back about 15 minutes later. Ebosse delivered an accurate deep cross from the left, and Giovanni Simeone met it with a classic striker’s header, driving it into the ground and watching it bounce past Muric into the corner.

Simeone has now found the net in five consecutive Serie A home games.

Torino completed the turnaround in quick succession. Duván Zapata floated a cross in from the left side of the box, and Marcus Holmgren Pedersen arrived at the far post to finish. It was the Norwegian’s first Serie A goal in his 84th appearance.

The result lifts Torino up one spot to 12th in the table, while Sassuolo stay 10th.
