Mohamed Salah touched down at an Istanbul airport on Wednesday, smiling and wearing Trabzonspor’s burgundy and blue kit ahead of his anticipated transfer from Liverpool. Hundreds of fans crowded around hoping to catch a glimpse of the Egyptian forward.
Trabzonspor confirmed on Tuesday that they were in talks with Salah. Club chairman Ertugrul Dogan said they plan to sign the 34-year-old on a free transfer at a ceremony in the Black Sea city on Thursday.
“Trabzon, are you ready? I can hear you. See you very soon,” Salah said in a video posted by the club on X.
“Everywhere is Trabzon to us,” he added while wearing a Trabzonspor kit, referring to the club's motto.
At Ataturk Airport, Salah was greeted by hundreds of fans. He waved to the crowd and led a traditional chant with them before heading off for a medical and a later flight east to Trabzon.

Salah left Liverpool this summer after nine years at the club. In 442 appearances he scored 257 goals and won the Premier League twice and the Champions League once.
During the 2024-25 season, Salah netted 29 Premier League goals and added 18 assists. That matched the league record for most goal involvements in a single season and set a new record for a 38-game campaign.
He was also named Premier League Player of the Season and picked up both the Golden Boot and the Playmaker Award - the first player to win all three in the same year.
His form dipped last season, with 7 goals and 7 assists in 27 league games. He was also dropped to the bench for Champions League matches, which sparked a public disagreement with then-Liverpool manager Arne Slot.
Salah began his European career at Swiss club Basel in 2012 before moving to Chelsea. He then had short spells at Fiorentina and AS Roma between 2015 and 2017, before signing for Liverpool.
Trabzonspor are widely seen as Turkey’s fourth-biggest club behind Istanbul giants Fenerbahce, Galatasaray and Besiktas. They finished third in the Super Lig last season and will enter the Europa League play-off round. Their most recent league title came in the 2021-22 season.
Salah had also been linked closely with Besiktas, but talks reportedly broke down over financial terms and image-rights demands, according to local media.
The details of the contract Salah is set to sign have not been made public yet.
