Serie A: Udinese Keep Top-10 Push Alive with Victory Against Torino

Udinese Vs Torino
Torino fall to Udinese in disappointing away display

Nicolo Zaniolo had a goal ruled out for offside and hit the woodwork in a frustrating outing.

Udinese wore a special kit to mark 50 years since the regional earthquake that killed over 1,000 people...

Udinese kept their push for a top-10 finish alive with a 2-0 win over Torino, thanks to goals from Kingsley Ehizibue and Thomas Kristensen.

The Friulani were missing several players including Keinan Davis, Jesper Karlstrom, Jordan Zemura, Alessandro Zanoli, and Nicolò Bertola after their 3-3 draw with Lazio. Torino were also depleted, without Duvan Zapata, Che Adams, Marcus Pedersen, Tino Anjorin, Zakaria Aboukhlal, and Ardian Ismajli, following their 2-2 comeback against Inter.

Udinese marked the 50th anniversary of the region’s earthquake that killed over 1,000 people by wearing a commemorative kit, with a fanfare held before kick-off. A minute’s silence was also observed at all weekend games for Formula 1 and Paralympic legend Alex Zanardi.

Giovanni Simeone was stopped point-blank by Maduka Okoye early on after meeting Valentino Lazaro’s cross, and Gvidas Gineitis blazed over from a corner routine.

Udinese’s first chance came when Christian Kabasele’s free-kick effort was deflected wide. The hosts then found the net in chaotic circumstances.

Adam Buksa dispossessed Gineitis and saw Nicolò Zaniolo blocked by Alberto Paleari, before Buksa hit the post with the goal gaping. Zaniolo tapped in the rebound, but the goal was ruled out for offside.

Zaniolo latched onto a through ball and cut inside, but his shot took a deflection off Saul Coco to deny what looked like a certain goal, and Oumar Solet’s glancing header was easily gathered.

Udinese finally broke through in first-half stoppage time, and again it was messy. Coco miscontrolled a throw-in and was dispossessed by Solet, with Jurgen Ekkelenkamp rolling it across from the left. Rafa Obrador nearly turned it into his own net, leaving Kingsley Ehizibue to poke it home from close range.

The second goal was more straightforward, with Thomas Kristensen left unmarked to nod in a Lennon Miller corner from six yards.

Torino created little after the break in a flat second-half display. Zaniolo’s goal drought continued as he burst from his own half only to have his shot blocked, saw penalty appeals waved away, and shot straight at Paleari.
