PSG Edge Brest to Close in on Fifth Straight Ligue 1 Title
| Late goal seals PSG victory as Ligue 1 crown beckons |
PSG’s 1-0 win over Brest puts them on the brink of the Ligue 1 title. They can secure it Wednesday against Lens with a six-point lead and superior goal difference.
PSG edged Brest 1-0 thanks to Doue’s late goal, extending their unbeaten run against Brest to 34 games and moving within touching distance of the Ligue 1 title...
Paris Saint-Germain are now one point away from clinching a fifth consecutive Ligue 1 crown after a 1-0 win over Brest, who have gone seven league matches without a victory (2 draws, 5 losses).
Having already booked a spot in a second straight Champions League final, Luis Enrique rotated heavily, making nine changes from the side that faced Bayern Munich midweek and trusting PSG’s squad players to get the job done in the league.
Lucas Hernandez came closest for PSG early on, unleashing a powerful long-range strike that forced Gregoire Coudert into a full-stretch save to tip it over the bar.
The hosts kept pressing, with 18-year-old Dro Fernández curling an effort just wide before Raphaël Le Guen made a crucial intervention to stop Gonçalo Ramos from tapping home Lee Kang-in’s low cross.
Brest had their moment when Eric Junior Dina Ebimbe’s close-range shot was saved by Renato Marin, who was making only his second Ligue 1 appearance. Any goal would have been ruled out anyway due to an offside in the build-up.
That proved to be Brest’s best chance of the half. A lengthy delay caused by technical issues disrupted the flow and took the momentum out of the game.
On the sidelines, Matvei Safonov was casually pouring water over PSG staff, highlighting the relaxed mood around the hosts even as another delay held up the start of the second half.
Once play resumed, Ramos went close with a header that drifted over the bar. Around the 60-minute mark, Enrique turned to his bench, bringing on Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Ousmane Dembele alongside Desire Doue in search of a breakthrough.
PSG came agonizingly close when Senny Mayulu smashed a shot from the edge of the box that hit the underside of the crossbar and bounced off the inside of the post.
The breakthrough finally came in the 82nd minute, with Doue drilling a low strike past Coudert to put PSG ahead.

That late goal sealed all three points for PSG, while Brest extended their poor away run to just one win in 11 matches on the road (3 draws, 7 losses).
The result also stretched PSG’s unbeaten run against Brest to 34 meetings in a row (26 wins, 8 draws) — their longest ever against a single opponent. With a six-point lead and a much better goal difference, Les Parisiens can clinch the Ligue 1 title on Wednesday when they host second-placed Lens in the penultimate game of the season.
