Lorient earn point at Parc des Princes to stall PSG’s title charge

Tosin scored a late equalizer for Lorient as PSG dropped points in a 2-2 home draw, inching closer to the Ligue 1 title while extending Lorient’s unbeaten run in the matchup to 4 wins and 1 loss in the last five meetings.

PSG rotated their lineup ahead of next week’s Champions League semi-final second leg against Bayern Munich, but still took the lead in the 6th minute. A Desire Doue cross was parried by Lorient keeper Yvon Mvogo straight into defender Ibrahim Mbaye, and the rebound deflected in for an own goal.

Lorient hit back quickly, leveling it in the 12th minute. Panos Katseris delivered a simple ball into the box, and Pablo Pagis finished it first time with a clean side-foot volley.

The equalizer gave Lorient momentum, and Panos Katseris became a constant threat down PSG’s left flank.

PSG offered little in response over the next 15 minutes, managing only a wayward shot from Senny Mayulu in a flat spell that drew an animated reaction from Luis Enrique on the sidelines.

Lucas Hernandez was denied by the woodwork and Lee Kang-in saw a powerful strike saved by Yvon Mvogo, but Lorient looked sharper in possession, with Noah Cadiou standing out in midfield. After the break, Lorient’s compact low block frustrated PSG, and Desire Doue’s wayward free-kick from distance in the 51st minute was their closest effort to retaking the lead early in the second half.

As the hour mark neared, PSG began to press forward more consistently without creating clear chances, prompting Luis Enrique to bring on João Neves and Warren Zaïre-Emery.

Zaïre-Emery made an instant impact with his first touch, firing a low shot from the edge of the box that took a slight deflection and found the net. It was his first Ligue 1 goal at Parc des Princes since August 2024.

The goal forced Lorient to drop their five-man defense, opening more space for PSG. But the hosts gifted them an equalizer when debutant Pierre Mounguengué played a poor backpass straight to substitute Aiyegun Tosin, who raced clear of the defense and slotted home for his first goal of the season.

Tosin nearly grabbed a late winner for Lorient, but Renato Marin pulled off a sharp save to keep it out. At the other end, Senny Mayulu struck the post with two minutes left, leaving the score level. The draw keeps PSG seven points clear of second-placed Lens ahead of their meeting in 11 days. For Lorient, it extends their away winless run to six league games with three draws and three losses, and they’ll stay ninth regardless of other results this round.
