Mauel Neuer Slams Bayern’s Lack of Edge After PSG Exit
| Neuer laments Bayern’s lack of ‘killer instinct’ as PSG end |
Harry Kane’s 94th-minute equaliser came too late to force extra time, ending Bayern’s hopes of reaching a first final since 2020.
Despite winning the Bundesliga and reaching the German Cup final, Bayern’s European campaign ends in disappointment...
.
Bayern Munich skipper Manuel Neuer voiced his frustration over his team’s missing cutting edge following Wednesday’s Champions League semi-final defeat to defending champions Paris Saint-Germain.
PSG held Bayern to a 1-1 draw in Munich to advance 6-5 on aggregate, booking their place in the final against Arsenal.
Despite netting 175 goals across all competitions this season, Bayern couldn’t find a way past PSG until Harry Kane’s stoppage-time strike came too late to change the outcome.
Bayern’s defeat ended their chance of reaching a first Champions League final since 2020, the year they beat PSG 1-0 to claim their sixth European title.
The German side have now failed to advance past a two-legged semi-final for more than 13 years. Their last Champions League success came in the 2019/20 season, but that campaign featured one-off quarter-final and semi-final matches due to the Covid pandemic.
“We didn't have big chances today, but we still created enough to score. We missed the killer mentality that PSG had to score the goals,” Neuer said to DAZN.
“We were close to the final but couldn't take the next step. Our goal came too late.”
Harry Kane’s goal in the fourth minute of stoppage time arrived too late to spark a comeback, leaving Bayern without enough time to find a second and push the tie to extra time.
“Our goal, unfortunately, came a bit too late. We didn't have time to create another chance or maybe even get a set-piece,” Neuer said.
“At that point it was too late.”
While Bayern have already secured the Bundesliga title and reached the German Cup final, Neuer said the immediate feeling is one of disappointment.
Speaking to German television after the match, Vincent Kompany echoed his captain’s assessment but added that he plans to use the setback as fuel moving forward.

“I don't have the ability to stay disappointed for long. Of course, in the end we lost two very, very tight games against a very good opponent. It's bitter.
“We needed to be more decisive. Congratulations to PSG. The Champions League is over for us this season, but there will be another chance - and that's a motivation for me.
“We have played Paris five times – we have won twice, lost twice and drawn once, which was today. We tried everything, that also has to be said.”
