From Title Glory to Anfield Exit: Liverpool Dismiss Arne Slot

Liverpool sack Arne Slot 12 months after ending title drought

Just 12 months after winning the Premier League, Arne Slot has been dismissed by Liverpool. Poor results and clashes with Mohamed Salah sealed the Dutchman’s Anfield exit.

Liverpool part ways with Arne Slot just one year after Premier League triumph...

Liverpool have ended their partnership with head coach Arne Slot following a tough 2025/26 season that saw the Reds finish 5th in the Premier League - a sharp drop from the title they won in his debut campaign.

Slot joined Anfield in 2024 after winning both the Eredivisie and KNVB Cup with Feyenoord.

Slot delivered Liverpool’s 20th league title in his debut season, but couldn’t repeat the success in year two.

Liverpool said in a statement: “The contribution Arne has made to Liverpool FC in the time that he has been with us has been significant, meaningful and - most importantly of all to supporters and ourselves - successful.

“At the same time, we have collectively come to the conclusion that change is necessary in order for the club to keep moving forward.

“We would like to take this opportunity to place on record our appreciation for Arne, who will always hold a special place in the history of this football club as the coach who delivered Liverpool’s 20th league title.

“He also helped guide the club through one of the most difficult periods imaginable following the loss of Diogo. The compassion and humanity he showed throughout that time said a great deal about him as a person.

“Nevertheless, the conclusion we have come to is built on a belief that the team’s trajectory is best addressed through a change of direction.

“Arne leaves with our gratitude, with a Premier League title to his name, and with the knowledge that he and his family will always be welcomed back at Anfield.”

Andoni Iraola is reportedly the frontrunner to take over at Anfield. The former Bournemouth boss led the Cherries to a 6th-place finish last season.

Slot stepped in for Jurgen Klopp and still delivered Liverpool a 2nd Premier League title. He did it with just one signing too - Federico Chiesa from Juventus for about £10m.

That restraint didn’t last. The next summer Liverpool splashed nearly £450m on reinforcements. They broke the Premier League transfer record twice, landing Florian Wirtz for £116m before smashing it again with Alexander Isak at £130m.
