Brentford Fight Back Twice to Draw With Crystal Palace
| Brentford keep home record intact |
Dango Ouattara scored twice, including a late equalizer, to keep Brentford’s unbeaten home record against Palace.
Palace missed the chance to complete a first league double over Brentford since 1957/58...
Brentford fought back from two deficits to earn a 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace. The result extended their unbeaten home record against Palace to seven Premier League matches, but it did little for their hopes of reaching Europe.
The game carried real weight for Brentford’s European chances, and it started badly for the Bees.
Brentford were let off early when Dango Ouattara missed a clear chance, firing over from close range in the opening five minutes. He was made to pay a minute later after Caoimhin Kelleher fouled Ismaila Sarr in the box and gave Palace a penalty.
Sarr stepped up and calmly converted, matching Andy Johnson’s club record of 21 goals in all competitions in a single Premier League season.
He could have broken the record around the 15-minute mark when a quick Palace counter saw his shot come back off the post.
If you hadn’t checked the table, it was Palace who looked like the team chasing Europe. They hit the woodwork again soon after when Sarr set up Jorgen.
The game continued to swing from end to end, and Brentford pulled level before half-time. It was Ouattara who scored, arriving at the back post as Jaydee Canvot’s header bounced in off the Burkina Faso forward.
The goal didn’t slow Palace down. They came out strong after the break and took the lead again early in the second half. Daniel Munoz found Adam Wharton on the edge of the box, and Wharton’s low strike slipped under Kelleher. It was a first goal for the England midfielder in his 94th appearance for the club.
Brentford brought on Kevin Schade to add an attacking spark but struggled to create chances. They had Kelleher to thank for staying in the game when he got a fingertip to Sarr’s cross, stopping Jean-Philippe Mateta from tapping in at the far post.

Palace didn’t have it all their own way. They were dealing with several defensive injuries ahead of the UEFA Conference League final, and were undone late on by a long throw. Sepp van den Berg flicked it on and Ouattara headed home at the far post.
The late goals gave Oliver Glasner another concern before the European final. They also meant Palace missed the chance to complete a league double over Brentford for the first time since 1957/58.
Brentford’s push for Europe now goes to the final day. With only one win in their last nine Premier League games, they aren’t in a strong position heading into it.
