AC Milan and Juventus shared the spoils in a cagey draw at San Siro, marking the fourth goalless stalemate in the last five Serie A meetings between the sides.

The two Italian giants met at San Siro aiming to boost their chances of finishing second behind runaway leaders Inter Milan and lock in UEFA Champions League qualification as quickly as possible.

With goals rare in recent meetings between the two, chances were predictably scarce in the opening 30 minutes.

Adrien Rabiot tried to force the issue when Michele Di Gregorio saved his long-range effort, and Juve thought they’d gone ahead moments later as Khephren Thuram turned in Francisco Conceicao’s cross, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside.

Undeterred, the lively Conceicao continued to threaten down the right for the Bianconeri and was denied by Mike Maignan at the near post after a surging run to the byline.

The contest was heating up heading into the break, with Conceicao forcing another save from Maignan just seconds before half-time.

The Portuguese winger remained a threat after the restart, again testing Maignan before a slick Rossoneri move nearly broke the deadlock. Rafael Leao teed up Alexis Saelemaekers in the box, but the Belgian’s strike crashed off the crossbar.

The game had developed a strong rhythm, with Juve’s penalty appeals waved away after Jonathan David went down in the box following a clash with Matteo Gabbia.

Milan suffered an injury setback late on when Luka Modric was forced off after an aerial clash with Manuel Locatelli, leaving the Rossoneri without a key creative outlet for the final 10 minutes. In truth, neither side showed the cutting edge needed to find the elusive opener.

The result keeps things unchanged in the table, with Milan and Juventus staying third and fourth respectively. It arguably suits Massimiliano Allegri’s men better, as they kept the Bianconeri at bay and moved six points clear of fifth-placed Como with the draw.
