Endrick and Moreira struck inside 20 minutes as Lyon upset PSG 2-1. Back-to-back wins put Lyon third and back in UCL contention...

Paris Saint-Germain’s six-game winning run in all competitions ended with a 2-1 loss to Olympique Lyonnais at the Parc des Princes, a result that breathes life back into the Ligue 1 title race.

PSG entered the clash after reaching the UEFA Champions League semifinals and had not played in Ligue 1 last week while preparing for their midweek tie against Liverpool.

As such, they may have been a bit rusty returning to domestic duty and found themselves two goals down inside 20 minutes.

In fact, less than 10 minutes were on the clock when Endrick scored his fourth league goal since joining on loan from Real Madrid in January, smashing it in off the post from inside the box.

Abner Vinícius was then denied when Matvey Safonov tipped his acrobatic overhead kick over the bar, but that was only a temporary reprieve for the hosts before they fell further behind.

Lyon broke quickly from a PSG corner through Afonso Moreira, who kept his composure to slot into the bottom corner.

The hosts had to respond and, after Gonçalo Ramos directed a weak header into Dominik Greif’s hands, Les Parisiens had a great chance to pull one back when Ainsley Maitland-Niles was ruled to have pushed Lucas Hernández over in the box.

However, Ramos couldn’t beat Greif from the resulting penalty in a huge let-off for Les Gones. On the brink of halftime, Lucas Beraldo headed over the bar as PSG went to the dressing room with a mountain to climb.

After the restart, Lyon kept threatening, with Moreira and Endrick forcing key saves from Safonov.

To give his side extra impetus, Luis Enrique brought on Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. The Georgia international tested Greif and then headed wide shortly after coming on, but the change didn’t have the desired impact.

Ousmane Dembele was another second-half substitute and went closest for PSG after the break, curling a shot off the crossbar with Greif rooted to the spot.

Kvaratskhelia pulled a goal back with a brilliant strike from the edge of the box that went in off the post. Ultimately, Enrique’s decision to rest several star players backfired as his team couldn’t recover from Lyon’s early blitz.

The result leaves the reigning champions just one point above RC Lens in the table. They still have a game in hand, but their rearranged fixture with their closest challengers could be vital in deciding where the title goes.

Meanwhile, after a six-game winless run threatened their UCL qualification hopes, back-to-back wins have lifted Lyon to third and put their fate back in their own hands.
