Lyon’s Endrick Backs Upset Bid vs PSG: ‘We’ve Beaten Favourites Before’
| Endrick confident Lyon can stun PSG in Ligue 1 title race clash |
Endrick believes Lyon can shock French and European champions PSG. Lyon sit 5th, one point off UCL places, while PSG lead Ligue 1 and eye another treble.
Lyon forward Endrick confident of upset vs PSG say “We’ve taken down other favourites before...”
Brazilian striker Endrick said he’s convinced Lyon can pull off a shock result against French and European champions Paris Saint-Germain in Sunday’s Ligue 1 showdown.
The meeting at PSG’s Parc des Princes carries weight for both the title race and Lyon’s push to claim a Champions League place next season.
“I know everyone will call them the favourites, but we’ve beaten other favourites before,” Real Madrid loanee Endrick said.
PSG head into the match in strong form, one point clear at the top of Ligue 1 and through to the Champions League semi-finals after a 4-0 aggregate win over Premier League title-holders Liverpool.
Lens' victory on Friday narrowed PSG’s lead, but ahead of the Lyon clash they still hold two games in hand over their unexpected title rivals.
With the season entering its decisive phase, the capital club remain fully focused on repeating their landmark 2024/25 campaign, when they claimed Ligue 1 and captured the Champions League for the first time in their history.
“It’s going to be a difficult match. They’re still holders of Europe’s biggest title, and they’ve got the Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembele in the squad plus several players heading to the World Cup,” Endrick added.
Chasing Champions League
As for Lyon, they sit fifth in Ligue 1 on 51 points. Still, they’re only one point behind fourth-placed Marseille, who currently hold the final Champions League qualification spot.
Endrick, 19, is aiming to rediscover the blistering form he showed after joining Lyon in January from parent club Real Madrid - hoping more minutes will lock down his place in Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil squad for the 2026 World Cup.
The teenager, a product of Palmeiras’ academy back home, made a dazzling start in France that included a hat-trick during a 5-2 win over Metz.
But his form has dropped off since then.
After scoring five goals in his first five games, Endrick has managed just one in his last 11 appearances across all competitions.
The Brazilian’s dip has coincided with a rough stretch for Lyon, though they got back to winning ways last Sunday by beating Lorient in a match where Endrick began on the bench.
“We're back to winning ways again and our aim is to secure a place in the Champions League,” Endrick said.
