The Philadelphia Eagles picked up fifth-year options for defensive tackle Jalen Carter and linebacker Nolan Smith on Monday.

Carter, 25, is set to earn $27.1 million in 2027. Smith, also 25, will make $13.7 million.

Both former Georgia teammates were taken by the Eagles in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft and have since become core parts of the team’s defensive front seven.

Carter was runner-up for Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2023 after posting a career-high six sacks and 33 tackles in 16 games, with one start.

Over the next two seasons, Carter earned All-Pro honors in 2024 and made two Pro Bowls. He drew controversy in last season’s opener after spitting on Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott.

Carter appeared in a career-low 11 games after having surgery on both shoulders, ending the 2025 season with 33 tackles and a career-low three sacks, but posted a career-high seven pass deflections.

As for Smith, he didn’t start a game as a rookie but played all 17 regular-season games at inside linebacker before hitting his stride in 2024 and 2025.

In 2024, Smith played 16 games with 10 starts at outside linebacker and set career highs with 6.5 sacks, 42 tackles and eight tackles for loss.

A year later, Smith missed the first five games of the season after surgery for a torn triceps.

He started all 12 games he played last season, recording 31 tackles, three sacks and one forced fumble. He also matched his previous year’s QB hits total with 11, despite fewer appearances.
