Caldentey's stoppage-time penalty seals Arsenal win, Man City earn Bayern draw...

Arsenal opened their Women's Champions League campaign with a late victory over Koge, while Manchester City drew with Bayern Munich.

Manchester City came back from two goals down to secure a 2-2 draw at Bayern Munich on Tuesday at the start of their Women's Champions League season, as Mariona Caldentey proved the hero for Arsenal with a late winner in their opener.

Bayern surged into a 2-0 lead inside the first 30 minutes through Giulia Gwinn's early strike and a Kerstin Casparij own goal.

Beth Mead reduced the deficit for the Women's Super League champions just before half-time.

City appeared headed for defeat to start the league phase after Khadija Shaw saw her penalty saved by Bayern goalkeeper Ena Mahmutovic in the second half.

But German forward Carlotta Wamser struck with four minutes left to ensure the points were shared in Bavaria.

“It was a game of two halves, I think. (The first half) was probably not good enough for our standards,” Mead told UEFA.

“But again we showed what the team is about, showed our character.”

Arsenal, winners of the 2025 Champions League, made an unconvincing start to their defence of Europe's top club prize.

Renee Slegers' team relied on an injury-time penalty from Spain international Caldentey to secure a 1-0 home win over Danish side HB Koge.

The Gunners seemed set for a goalless draw until new signing Selina Cerci was brought down in the area by Yukina Sakabe's challenge in the 92nd minute.

A Sakina Karchaoui penalty in the final 20 minutes secured a 1-1 draw for Paris Saint-Germain at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano, cancelling out Felicia Schroeder's second-minute opener for Real Madrid.

Inter Milan edged Swedish side Hacken 1-0, with Haley Bugeja's fifth-minute strike proving enough to earn the hosts all three points.

Marit Bratberg Lund scored either side of half-time to give Benfica a 2-1 victory at Juventus, despite a late goal from the hosts through Alba Redondo.
