Kvaratskhelia brace powers PSG past Nantes, restores four-point lead

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia scored twice as PSG beat Nantes 3-0 to go four points clear of Lens. Desire Doue added a stunning goal as the Parisians bounced back from their Lyon defeat.

Achraf Hakimi and Fabian Ruiz both hit the woodwork as PSG thrashed Nantes 3-0. The win moves the defending champions closer to a record 14th Ligue 1 title...

Paris Saint-Germain returned to winning ways with a comfortable 3-0 win over Nantes, moving four points clear of RC Lens at the top of Ligue 1 and leaving Les Canaris with just one win in their last 13 league matches (D3, L9).

After a home loss to Olympique Lyonnais at the weekend, PSG were back in a title race, but had a chance to pull away from their closest rivals here.

Les Parisiens made the perfect start, earning a penalty after 15 minutes when Ali Youssef was penalized for handball in the box after Marquinhos’ header struck his arm.

After a VAR review confirmed the spot-kick, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia slotted it into the bottom corner.

Nantes’ woes deepened when Louis Leroux thought he’d equalized midway through the first half, pouncing on a loose ball in the box to fire home - only for the goal to be ruled out for a foul in the build-up.

A frustrating first half for the visitors ended with them two down, as Achraf Hakimi surged forward and fed Désiré Doué, who fired a brilliant strike into the far top corner from a tight angle.

The hosts came out flying after the break and soon made it three, with Kvaratskhelia weaving into the box before slotting home.

Luis Enrique’s side were in full flow, and Hakimi nearly added a fourth with a long-range effort that went just wide before Kvaratskhelia was denied a hat-trick by the crossbar.

Fabian Ruiz tried his luck next, but he was also kept out by the woodwork when his deflected shot hit the post.

In the end, three goals were more than enough for PSG to seal a commanding win and take control again in the race for a record-extending 14th Ligue 1 title.

Nantes, meanwhile, sit five points off the relegation play-off spot. With time running out for Vahid Halilhodžić’s side, they look set for a drop to France’s second tier for the first time in 13 years.
