San Diego FC owner Mohamed Mansour described his Egyptian compatriot Mohamed Salah as an “asset” for any team, as speculation intensifies over the Liverpool star's next club after the season.

“Of course, Mo Salah is somebody that, as an Egyptian, my origin, I'm very proud of...”

San Diego FC's owner, Mohamed Mansour, thinks Mohamed Salah would be a great addition to the team, calling him an “asset.” Salah is leaving Liverpool at the end of the season after nine incredible years, scoring 255 goals and becoming one of the club's all-time greats.

Mansour, who's Egyptian like Salah, said he's proud of the player's achievements, but emphasized that signing him would be a business decision, considering the team's style of play and other factors. San Diego FC has been linked with Salah, and Mansour's comments have fueled speculation about a potential move.

Mohamed Salah is considering his options after announcing he'll leave Liverpool at the end of the season. While Saudi Arabia is a top contender, he's also being linked with a move to Major League Soccer (MLS) in the US, following in the footsteps of stars like Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann. San Diego FC, with its British-Egyptian owner Mohamed Mansour, is reportedly interested in signing Salah.

The club has the financial backing and roster flexibility to make a move for the Egyptian superstar, who will be a free agent this summer. Mansour's Right to Dream Academy, with operations in Ghana, Egypt, and Denmark, could also play a role in attracting Salah to San Diego.

“He's probably one of the great players today. And any team that will get him, or any country that will get him, he will definitely be an asset,” Mansour told AFP Thursday, on the sidelines of the Business of Soccer summit in Atlanta.

San Diego FC owner Mohamed Mansour isn't saying whether he's actively pursuing Mohamed Salah or has already made contact about a potential move. Mansour did say Salah would be a great “asset” for the team, but emphasized that recruitment decisions are left to the sports director and coach.

But he added: “Of course, Mo Salah is somebody that, as an Egyptian, my origin, I'm very proud of. He is somebody that reached the world stage as one of the great players.”

“And I think he will, if he does decide... wherever he will go, he will add a lot to that league and to that country and to that team for sure. So he's somebody I'm very proud of.”

Mohamed Salah is a Liverpool legend, with an impressive trophy cabinet that includes two Premier League titles, a Champions League, FA Cup, two League Cups, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup. He's also matched Thierry Henry's record with four Premier League Golden Boot awards.

Salah's impact on Liverpool goes beyond his impressive stats. He was the driving force behind the team's resurgence under Jurgen Klopp, propelling them to the top of English and European football. Many consider him the greatest player to emerge from Egypt, and arguably Africa.

Mohamed Salah's impact on Egypt is immense, with San Diego FC owner Mohamed Mansour revealing that the entire country comes to a standstill whenever Salah plays. Mansour even named Salah as his favorite footballer of all time, highlighting the Egyptian star's massive following.

Salah has had a tough season at Liverpool, scoring just five league goals and expressing frustration at being benched after a dip in form. He even told reporters in December that he felt "thrown under the bus" by the club. Despite this, Mansour believes Salah can still make a big impact, and San Diego FC is considering signing him.

Opportunity

Mansour heaped praise on Salah, calling him his favorite footballer of all time, but emphasized that recruitment decisions are left to San Diego FC's sports director and coach.

“I let the people in charge” decide, he said.

“I just say, 'I got this opportunity. My belief is so. You guys make the decision. Come back to me.' If you say, 'No, he's not (a) fit,' whoever it is, in whichever sector, then that's it.”

That philosophy has paid dividends so far.

San Diego FC made a splash in their first MLS season, breaking the record for most points by an expansion team with 60. The team, owned by Mohamed Mansour and the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation, is currently fourth and undefeated in the Western Conference.

The franchise's success is notable, given the $500 million expansion fee paid to join MLS. With strong ownership and a growing fanbase, San Diego FC is looking to build on their promising start.

San Diego FC has a young squad that's heavily influenced by Mohamed Mansour's Right to Dream academy network, with operations in Ghana, Egypt, and Denmark. The network has produced talented players like Tottenham and Ghana winger Mohammed Kudus.

The academy connection gives San Diego FC access to top talent and a unique approach to player development. With Mansour's passion for football and investment in the team, the club's future looks bright.

That approach is working wonders for San Diego FC.
