Austria coach Ralf Rangnick has praised Ghana, describing them as a 'strong team' ahead of their friendly match in Vienna.
Ralf Rangnick and forward Michael Gregoritsch were full of respect for the Black Stars, with Rangnick saying Ghana represents a demanding test for Austria as they prepare for their first World Cup in 28 years.
Austria head coach Ralf Rangnick was measured, respectful, and clear-eyed about the challenge ahead, speaking at his pre-match press conference on Thursday.
“Ghana is a strong team in terms of play, but they also have a certain physicality, athleticism, and dynamism,” Rangnick told reporters.
“This is a great test for us because we need to bring our strengths to the field, both physically, tactically, and technically in order to win the game.”
Rangnick was clear that Austria won't take the friendly lightly, emphasizing their intent to approach the match with seriousness.
“Ghana is a physically strong, technically well-trained team that can transition quickly,” the Freiburg striker said. “It's a perfect test to see how we fare against non-European opponents. We're looking forward to playing against an African team.”
Austria will face Ghana on Friday at 18:00 CET at the Ernst Happel-Stadion, fielding a squad that includes captain David Alaba, Konrad Laimer, and Marko Arnautović.
Two newly eligible players, Carney Chukwuemeka and Paul Wanner, could also feature, adding intrigue to the occasion. Austria have been drawn in Group J at the World Cup alongside Argentina, Algeria, and Jordan, making every competitive performance in the build-up crucial.
