Michael Carrick Slams 'Baffling' Penalty Decisions
Michael Carrick slams 'crazy' refereeing decisions in Man Utd's draw with Bournemouth. Manchester United held to 2-2 draw by Bournemouth amid VAR controversy and red card for Harry Maguire.
Bournemouth equalize late to deny Man Utd victory, sparking debate over penalty decisions...
Man United manager Michael Carrick was left fuming after a non-penalty call in the 2-2 draw vs Bournemouth. Fernandes scored from the spot early on, but Amad Diallo's trip in the box wasn't deemed worthy of a second penalty.
Carrick described the inconsistency in penalty decisions as “crazy,” especially since United blew two leads.
Manchester United's lead was short-lived as Bournemouth equalized through Ryan Christie, who was teed up by Adrien Truffert. United regained the lead via a James Hill own goal, but Harry Maguire's sending off and penalty concession for bringing down Evanilson changed the game. The penalty decision was controversial, with many believing the contact was similar to Truffert's challenge on Amad Diallo, which wasn't penalized.
Manager Michael Carrick slammed the officiating, calling the decisions “crazy“ and “baffling.” He questioned why VAR didn't intervene, especially since a penalty was awarded for a similar incident involving Maguire.
"To give one and not give the other, I just can't get my head around - it's crazy,” said Carrick.
"I can understand that decision (to send off Maguire) but we should have had another penalty and the game would have been different.
“I thought that was what VAR was for, to clear things up and consistency.
“It's two different decisions, so a bit baffling really.”
Manchester United's recent draw against Bournemouth was a disappointment, but they're still in a great position to secure a Champions League spot next season. With a top-five finish almost guaranteeing a place in Europe's elite competition, United leads sixth-placed Chelsea by seven points, making their position quite comfortable.

The team now has a break from action, with over three-and-a-half weeks before their next game, which is the FA Cup quarter-finals. This break will give them time to regroup and prepare for the crucial matches ahead.
“We could have had more tonight but it's not the end of the world,” added Carrick.
“We'll come back stronger after the break.”
The points are shared on the south coast.
