Kasper Schmeichel, son of Peter Schmeichel, faces uncertain future after devastating shoulder injury diagnosis...
Kasper Schmeichel is facing a tough time after revealing a major shoulder injury could potentially end his career. The Celtic goalkeeper has been playing through pain since hurting his left shoulder while appearing for Denmark last year, and it worsened against Stuttgart last month.
The 39-year-old has been advised to undergo two surgeries to repair the damage, which includes a torn bicep, torn rotator cuff, and dislocated shoulder. The recovery process will take at least 10-12 months, and Schmeichel is understandably devastated by the news.
Schmeichel's contract with Celtic expires this summer, and it's likely his time at the club has come to an end. He's been a key figure for Denmark and had a successful career, playing for clubs like Leicester City and Manchester City.

Celtic's Scottish champions have missed Schmeichel's presence for the last five matches, and the goalkeeper received some tough news on Monday.
Schmeichel spoke to CBS Sports Golazo Network, sharing the update on his shoulder injury: “I'm going to need two surgeries now to fix my shoulder,” a devastating diagnosis from a specialist.
The 39-year-old added: “You don't really know how to react to this. I could have potentially played my last ever football game. I've been a footballer since the day I was born. That kind of thought is devastating. It's very, very hard to wrap my head around at the moment.”
Kasper Schmeichel comes from football royalty - his dad, Peter Schmeichel, was a legendary goalkeeper for Manchester United under Alex Ferguson.
Schmeichel's own career highlights include winning the Premier League with Leicester in 2016, a huge upset at the time, and keeping goal for the Foxes when they lifted the FA Cup in 2021.
Schmeichel moved to Celtic ahead of the 2024/25 season, joining from Anderlecht, following stints at Nice and Leicester.
He's scheduled for surgery on Friday and is determined to fight back from the injury, despite a long road to recovery: “I'm hoping I can salvage my career,” he said.
“My mind is like, 'OK, I'm going to give it absolutely everything I can to see if I can get back',” he said.
“It would be probably one of the greatest feats of my career if I could get back from an injury like this. I'm going to fight, I'm going to try everything I can.”
